Back again with another game review! Little Witch in the Woods is a Korean made game by the developer/publisher SUNNY SIDE UP. This time it is not on mobile but you can find it in Early Access on Steam and XBOX. Though I hope by final release it will be on switch because it is the perfect game for cozy gamers who like games like Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing and things like it. Honestly it’s like Stardew Valley and Harry Potter had a baby, minus the romance. In this Pixel RPG you can explore a village, help the residents and craft awesome potions!
Our beautiful game starts off with our cute but ditzy main character Ellie the Apprentice Witch and her trusty talking witch hat named Virgil! SMALL SPOILERS AHEAD! You start out on a train and she is seriously bored. No really, she says it out loud, a lot. Alas, as you make your way through the train it eventually stops and Ellie being the mischievous teenage witch she is, gets off and misses the train in the morning. Leaving a note behind basically saying she is stuck in the woods until it comes back to get her. There starts her story and begins my review: I really want to start off by saying I absolutely adore this art style and gameplay.
The music is relaxing and Ellie is very interesting to play. As you progress through this story you really get to see Ellie’s personality as a character and the adorable interactions between her and the NPC’s. I really enjoyed the potion making mechanics. Very simple yet I somehow had to go back and remind myself how to make each one every time. Everything about this game felt so relaxing and simple but at the same time you can really tell you have to work for what you’re doing. Because the days are so short in-game you only have a limited time to collect ingredients so you really have to time things out properly for yourself. Since it is in early access there isn’t a ton to play. I played a little over 10 hours and I had completed what was playable. You can tell by the ending and all the open ended pieces to the plot that this is going to be a game worth spending your time on. I have really high hopes for the full release and how this all plays out for Ellie and her friends.

Cons:
- When first learning how to make potions and accessing the storage chests in the witches house there is no tutorial on how to do so. Learning the keys for yourself was a bit stressful. Having a tutorial on how the keys work with gameplay would’ve made this much easier.
- Since this is still in Early Access I won’t necessarily call this a bad thing but the translation during the conversations with NPC’s is very unnatural and long. The translators just need to do more work on this before full release.
- This one is just personal because I am an impatient little goblin when it comes to games I love and want to play. (I’m looking at you Nintendo, I want BOTW2…) It’s just that it is still in Early Access. I want the full version asap!
I am obviously going to wait in anticipation for the full release of Little Witch in the Woods and give SUNNY SIDE UP my full support until then! I hope this makes you want to go play it as well! It is ₩18,000 on Steam, which equates to almost $15 in the States. Thank you so much for reading! Happy playing! xoxo
